Three Village Historical Society (TVHS), an educational non-profit established in 1964, has been awarded a $350,000 grant from the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation and a $300,000 grant from NY State Assemblyman Steve Englebright to be used for repurposing the Dominick-Crawford Barn, a historically significant local building from circa 1840.
Utilizing elements from the original 1840 barn, the new structure, named The Dominick-Crawford Barn Education and History Center at the Three Village Historical Society will be located in the 2.26 acre field at the Society’s headquarters on 93 N. Country Road in Setauket.
The Education and History Center will include spacious teaching facilities, interactive exhibit space, as well as archive facilities that will be readily accessible to staff, local educators, students, and the public.
The center can accommodate small to moderate sized groups for community activities and events with a maximum occupancy of 183. We are a hub for history and learners of all ages: creating educational experiences that spark curiosity, inspire critical thinking, and captivate the imagination. TVHS is proud to serve the diverse Three Village community and beyond.
The Three Village Historical Society exists to educate the public about this area’s rich cultural heritage as well as protect and preserve local history. Destined for destruction, TVHS stepped in and saved the Dominick-Crawford barn circa 1840, originally located in Old Field, NY.
Upon procurement, our intention was to restore the barn's structural integrity, preserve its historic beauty, and convert it into usable space for both the organization and the public.
Due to increased building costs and delays, the projected cost to complete the center has nearly doubled since our initial fundraising campaign, with a total of $1.3 million.
All funds raised will go directly to this project.
