Tea with a spot of History | Down the ways: The wooden ship era and life around Setauket harbor

June 13 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Three Village Historical Society Historian Bev Tyler will give a short presentation entitled Down the ways: The wooden ship era and life around Setauket harbor

Between 1845 and 1860, the shipyards along Shore Road in East Setauket were busy building, repairing and launching  sloops, schooners, barks and brigs that sailed all over the world bring back goods and treasures never before seen in America. The homes of Ship Captains, shipyard workers, fishermen and associated trades saw the Dyer’s Neck area grow and prosper. Wives, children, boarders and servants made the area buzz with activity. Join in this exploration of our maritime heritage, the people who made it work and the efforts now being undertaken by the Setauket Harbor Task Force to return the harbor to its pristine condition.
